As an entrepreneur, it’s absolutely crucial to take time out to work ON your business, not just IN your business! The person that’s responsible for leadership, for seeding and driving the vision is YOU! Don’t spend all of your time doing what is urgent as opposed to what is absolutely important for long-term growth. Learn better, do better, innovate and grow your team and by so doing grow your profits!
Of course, you must review your goals periodically to ensure you are on track. Have you done more than you thought possible? Did you set your sights too low initially? Where do you need help? What is it that if you don’t start doing immediately, will mean that your goals will not be realised and your business would not succeed? How can you course correct/what do you need to do this day, this week, this month to get on track? Ask yourself the hard questions and then do the work it takes to build that institution!
I have read the Jim Collins book “Good to Great” twice in the last 4 years. I see that as I grow and my business grows, I learn a different thing from the same book or see what I have learnt differently. It has been said that on pages 110 to 116, of ‘Good to Great’ is the most important advise on business ever written, I would share it with you, but I think that will be depriving you of the advantage you get by reading and digesting and interacting with the book yourself.
So yes, get ‘Good to Great’ by Jim Collins. Also get a great goal setting workbook that helps you identify your WHY, then guides you to set the goals that’ll bring them to fruition, helps you break those goals into actionable steps and also helps you identify who your ideal customer is and how to serve them! This ‘Go Mega Business Goal Setting Workbook’ by Udo Okonjo does all of that and more! And she has graciously offered a 10% discount to readers of my blog if you use the code ‘HPGS’ when you order. Finally, one of the greatest tools that has supported my entrepreneurial journey is Dave Ramsey’s EntreLeadership podcast. How else can I seat here in Nigeria and be mentored by the highest caliber of people in business, such as Seth Godin, Colonel Littleton, Lewis Howes (who is an expert at Mega Marketing), Gary Vaynerchuk (a social media genius and we all know what social media can do for your business), Rabbi Daniel Lapin (on breaking the limiting mindsets that get in the way of your success), Mari Smith and Micheal Hyatt amongst others! Because of the EntreLeadership Podcast, traffic time isn’t wasted time anymore! It’s learning time and then I step out and implement!
Okay, I guess I am feeling generous this morning. These tools help me a lot and I thought they’ll help you too! So now it’s your turn, what books and tools have helped you on your journey to grow yourself and your business?
