I love the imagery of the ship on the ocean, we don't know whither it journeys but it has a destination and the ocean is big enough to accommodate it. Same with 2015, you are the vessel and the year is your ocean, everything it takes to get where you want to go is already here, now it's up to you to make it happen! Barely 19 hours ago, we ushered in the year 2015 admist shouts of joy, shouts of happy new year, with hope and jubilation. You probably went to sleep in the early hours of today and after waking up, you have sought out some time to think about, dream about, pray about and plan your new year. If you are anything like me, between dreaming about and planning your new year, you have found a big yawning chasm between where you are and where you want to go/where you see yourself? Now there is a big “HOW???” hanging in your subconscious…

That’s why I wanted to share this with you, it’s a lovely poem by Minnie Louise Haskins. I find that it comes to mind every time I am at the cusp of a big decision, at the point where I am wondering how, or even when I feel clueless or powerless as to what next to do. I wanted to share it with you so that you know that you have all it takes to be the very best version of you this year, so that you know that there are more for you than they that are against you and so that you know that ALL of creation is truly falling over itself to bless you. Only believe!

“The Gate of the Year”, a poem by Minnie Louise Haskins

And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year: “Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.”
And he replied:
“Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the Hand of God. That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way.”

So I went forth, and finding the Hand of God, trod gladly into the night. And He led me towards the hills and the breaking of day in the lone East.

So heart be still:
What need our little life
Our human life to know,
If God hath comprehension?

In all the dizzy strife
Of things both high and low,
God hideth His intention.

God knows. His will
Is best. The stretch of years
Which wind ahead, so dim
To our imperfect vision,
Are clear to God.
Our fears
Are premature;
In Him,
All time hath full provision
.

Then rest: until
God moves to lift the veil
From our impatient eyes,
When, as the sweeter features
Of Life’s stern face we hail,
Fair beyond all surmise
God’s thought around His creatures
Our mind shall fill.

I really hope that fills you with more strength and courage. A calm assurance. It does that for me having spent some time on earth and planned and seen the best laid plans go to naught, I am sure something in you agrees that “in the hands of God is safer than a known way”.  And really, “what need our human hearts to know, if God has comprehension?”, considering that there are so many things we think we know that we don’t actually know, the people we thought we knew, who from their betrayal it turns out we didn’t know? Or the outcomes we thought we could predict which  showed we were not Nostra Daemus, LOL. I have boiled my entire theology down to 2 ideals: “God is great & God is good”. So if God is great, I know there is no situation too difficult for Him to handle, no challenge that’s too big and if He is good, I know that He will only let the best come my way. Therefore, between God’s greatness and God’s goodness, I find complete cover! It also means, like Minnie said, “in Him, ALL time (times of lack, times of uncertainty, of recession, times of incessant terror attacks, times of devaluation of the currency, times of waiting (for a spouse, a child, a job), times of plenty and even times of uncommon success), ALL time, hath provision. Whether what is provided is grace to see it through, a way out, an idea, maybe even great people to surround you, in Him, all time hath provision.

I wrote this post mainly for me, I needed reassurance,  comfort, I needed to re-focus on Whose I am, because it is based on that, that I am “who” I am. And I decided to share it because I thought you or someone you know may be needing some strength and encouragement to take this year by the horns and make it the best one possible! So please share this post and encourage someone…

Here’s to 2015! May it be totally beautiful for you in every way that counts…
